St. Michael’s College
Student Center and Residence Hall Expansion
Budget: $26 Million
Location: Colchester, VT
Architects: Freeman French Freeman
Scope: LN Consulting completed the design and construction administration for the construction of a new Student Center and Residence Hall at St. Michael’s College. The proposed Student Center is approximately 44,000 sq. ft. and includes dining and food service programs.
The Residence Hall is approximately 49,000 sq. ft. and supports 104 beds. In addition, the project included 12,600 sq. ft. of renovation within existing campus Residence Halls in order to integrate the new Student Center and Residence Hall building within an existing Residence Hall Complex.
Our project design included; natural light features, geothermal heating, and air conditioning, high energy efficient energy recovery ventilation systems with demand control ventilation, a building-mounted photovoltaic array with a nominal nameplate rating of approximately 80kW, super-efficient lighting design that includes daylight controls, envelope analysis to develop a cost-effective/highly efficient building envelope, economizer ventilation system, and detailed mechanical control systems to minimize energy usage through active means. The geothermal system is based upon (48) 500 foot deep closed loop boreholes for a total heat exchanger length of 24,000 feet.
