L.N. Consulting is in the design phase for Middlebury College?s Compressed Biomethane Project. The project will incorporate the use of compressed biomethane as a fuel source for campus heating and electrical generation as well as a potential fuel source for campus maintenance vehicles. The project design consists of the design of multiple scenarios for the acceptance of compressed biomethane delivered to the campus via large tube trailers. The different scenarios include direct connection of the tube trailer to an underground distribution system which transports compressed biomethane to the campus central plant; the utilization of compression and storage system to storage 300,000 cu. ft. of compressed biomethane on campus; and the use of a compression and storage system to support a fast filling station for campus maintenance and recycling vehicles. The project involves investigation of the production and upgrading process, the delivery method, and compression and storage systems.
